A single mother, with nowhere left to turn, called us in the aftermath of escaping a domestic violence situation. In an instant, she had gone from the relative stability of a two-income household to relying solely on her own paycheck. She had picked up overtime shifts at the hospital, determined to keep food on the table, but the numbers simply didn't add up. Between the burden of her car loan, mounting past-due rent, and an electric bill she couldn't pay, the walls were closing in. Her son’s medical history meant that keeping the lights on was a matter of life or death, and a medical certificate paused the utility shutoff for 30 days. But the clock was still ticking with an eviction notice that threatened to take everything.

Thanks to the flexible funding provided by supporters like you, our case managers were able to step in. We provided $500 to halt the eviction and negotiated a sustainable payment plan for her rent. But we didn’t stop there. We connected her to resources to clear the electric bill entirely, offered one-on-one budgeting assistance, and ensured her family was included in our holiday support programs. Today, her rent is fully paid off, she is in a much stronger financial position, and she has the tools and community support to remain sustainable for the long haul.
